My family has been affected by cancer many times; my great-grandmother, great-aunt, younger cousin, close friends... and me.  I had the horrible experience of battling cancer, but was very fortunate to overcome it, not only once, but three times.  I ran the Richmond Marathon shortly after treatments with "I Am My Hero" written on my hand.  Every step of the way, this was my inspiration to keep moving forward. Sadly, I have lost loved ones and close friends to cancer... I was running for those who couldn't.

So, why have I joined the Massey Challenge?  It is because of the tragic losses I have experienced that I have made it my life's mission to fight against cancer in any way possible, to help find a cure, to be a person who can make a difference now and in the future.  I want to return the gifts given to me by an incredibly supportive community.

Cancer is not picky.  Yes, genetic factors predispose some people to the disease.  However, cancer is not discriminatory.  My mission is to be an asset to the local community and inspire others to do the same.  We all depend on each other's participation in society for our well-being.   We need to band together to support one another.  I despise cancer with every fiber of my being.  I hate what it has done to my family and friends. By joining the Massey Challenge I am fighting arm in arm with thousands of our community members in the battle against cancer.  We are fighting to raise awareness and funds for groundbreaking, lifesaving research.  One dollar at a time we can all make a world of difference.
